Chapter 35

Feeling genuinely relieved seemed to sting my pride for a time.

Who still wants to marry him?

I am the one declining!

“Please proceed, Young Master. I will tidy up here and return shortly.”

Despite my seething wrath inside, I managed to grin brightly on the surface.

My hands trembled with humiliation and dread as I pretended to straighten up the tray, causing the teacups to clink in unison.

“…Alright, then.”

He returned my stare before leaving, his expression still one of sorrow.

He even moved his lips as if to say anything else, causing me to turn my head away swiftly.

The embarrassment was beyond description.

Don’t look at me, don’t say anything, and don’t pity me!

If you’re going to pity me, please give me money!

‘Insane, really!’

I let out a silent scream that could only be heard by myself after hearing Adrian and Hubert descend the stairs.

Shame… very shameful!

I recognized for the first time that death by shame was a serious possibility.

It makes no sense.

Why would Adrian, of all the men in the world, raise such a fuss?

How and why, of all people!

To the demon?

And now I’ve bought into all of these strange misunderstandings!

Unable to bear it, I almost punched the side table but stopped just in time, comprehending the truth.

This appears to be expensive, and I would be liable for a large sum of damages.

Isn’t there anything I can safely hit?

If this were Korea, I would have undoubtedly punched a pillow. Still, pillows are practically precious in this game, to the point where even the Count’s family would prioritise their importance.

But nothing else is accessible to hit without causing harm or owing recompense.

Everything is simply too pricey.

I had to let out my rage by furiously striking the air.

Adrian had that look earlier!

And Hubert, why is he bringing up the past and making me so painfully uncomfortable?

And Hilda, too!

How could she have chosen such a person?

“Huff, huff…”

After a few minutes of randomly beating the nonexistent punching bag, I stopped.

Although I was upset, I looked foolish, like one of those wavy inflatable tube men you see in front of newly opened stores… Straightening my unkempt appearance, I couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Huhu, huhuhu…”

I slowly regained some sanity while laughing like a ghost.

Humans are thinking beings.

Sometimes the gaming system causes us to forget our reason, but I am human.

So, I think.

Despite Hubert’s contempt of my human dignity, this is not reality.

It’s within a game.

I’ve become a joke after accepting all of the pity from game characters, but since it’s not real, I can take it.

Okay, let’s settle down.

I’ll complete what I started and get out of here.

“Huh…”

After regaining my calm beyond human limitations, I ensured no one was nearby before locking the door.

「The ‘Seer’s Eyes’ Skill is active.」

“Yikes, what is all this…?”

I expected there to be at most a few items loaded with malice… I twirled around in place, jaw agape.

Countless eyes blazed blood-red and stared back at me.

It seemed as if a jeweler who loved gems had put rubies everywhere.

I assumed there wouldn’t be many because I couldn’t see through walls, but how many are there exactly?

One, two, three. Ten, fifteen, and twenty…

I counted them with my fingers, but there was no end.

I clicked my tongue and shook my head in disgust.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk; I knew it. A bundle of malice, pure malice. A young guy with a dark heart.”

Pretending to be innocent and good, even a simple pen or glove was infused with malice and colored a rich scarlet.

No matter how I looked, I couldn’t eliminate all of this in one day.

Because it would be troublesome if discovered, I decided to begin by disposing of the goods with great malice.

Adrian will be unable to move freely if I remove all of this, right?

“This skill is really useful.”

To gain such an advanced skill at level 10, may the game get easier?

If I become a veteran player, I may eventually understand the world’s principles.

I could be the first servant to become a sage.

“Let’s start with this knife.”

Humming a melody, I started gathering the smaller stuff.

Leather gloves, a fountain pen, a bookmark, and a whip for unknown purposes…

Despite appearing commonplace, they were steeped in malice and bright red.

It may appear to be petty larceny, but it is all for a good cause—saving the characters in this game.

Everyone should be thanking me.

Shouldn’t I have a title like ‘Hero Who Reduced Casualties in a Horror Game’ rather than ‘Heartless Worker’?

Of course, Adrian would be upset if he found out I had taken these stuff.

But I do have something to rely on.

The game’s primary goal was ‘Adrian kills the mansion’s residents to achieve demonic power.

Originally, no character was intended to hinder Adrian.

But what if one of the game’s characters blatantly contradicts the scenario?

The game was not designed to handle such circumstances and would automatically lead the characters to a standstill.

They would become trapped within the predetermined bounds, repeating the same activities indefinitely.

My assessment of Adrian went as follows: Step 1: Adrian determines to commit murder. Step 2: Adrian hunts for a murder weapon. Step 3: Adrian eliminates the target.

By interfering with step 2, Adrian would be stuck in a step 2 prison, repeating the same activities indefinitely.

Since the game has already been released, it is unlikely that an exception-handling algorithm will be introduced unexpectedly.

Disrupting the system this way may result in a crash, allowing me to escape the game.

It was an excellent opportunity to test this notion.
