Chapter 14 Chapter 14: Mr. Chu, The Red Wine You Ordered

A server in a suit brought the menu over.

It was a handsome French man.

Li Beibei said, “Xiubai, thank you for jumping in to save me yesterday. I almost dragged you down. I want to thank you properly today. Order whatever you want. It’s my treat. You don’t have to stand on ceremony.”

Chu Xiubai had thought that his act of saving the damsel in distress had failed. But, Su Qingdai said that Li Beibei hated Fu Jingmo. So, if she had to thank someone, it would be him—for being the first to jump in.

Chu Xiubai pretended to be a gentleman. “Let me treat you today. Actually, I feel guilty about what happened yesterday. Although I was once the provincial swimming champion, I probably haven’t practiced for a long time… So, I’m rusty.”

Li Beibei squeezed out a smile. “Xiubai, you don’t have to stand on ceremony with me. I was sincere when I said that it would be my treat. Don’t tell me you won’t even do me this honor.”

Chu Xiubai did not refuse. In fact, he was just being polite just now.

He had also heard of Qingyu House. Although he had prepared some money today, he might not be able to afford the expenses here.

“My treat next time then.”

Li Beibei handed the menu to Chu Xiubai. “Xiubai, you order.”

Chu Xiubai glanced at the menu. He did not know what language it was written in; he did not recognize a single punctuation mark.

Li Beibei was chatting enthusiastically with the server—in fluent French.

It would be very embarrassing if he said that he could not understand the menu now.

Hence, Chu Xiubai called the server over and casually ordered a few dishes on the menu.

Soon, the server left with the menu.

However, after the dishes were all served, the server brought over a bottle of red wine. The handsome French man spoke fluent Chinese. “Mr. Chu, may I serve the red wine you ordered now?”

Chu Xiubai was annoyed. Because he did not understand the menu, he ordered a few dishes blindly. He did not expect to order a bottle of red wine.

He looked at Li Beibei awkwardly.

The first time they met, he had ordered red wine. Would it make Li Beibei think that he was up to no good?

Unexpectedly, Li Beibei smiled and said, “It’s okay. We’re all adults. What’s wrong with drinking some red wine? Serve it now.”

The server opened the bottle elegantly and let the wine breathe.

Then, he poured a glass for each of them.

Li Beibei raised her glass. “Xiubai, although I don’t drink, I’m willing to take a sip to express my gratitude. I’m very touched by your heroism. Let me toast you.”

Li Beibei took a big gulp of red wine.

Chu Xiubai hurriedly picked up his wine glass and drank it in one gulp too.

Everything went smoothly during the meal. But after Li Beibei drank the red wine, she was a little different. It seemed like she could not hold her liquor and looked tipsy.

Halfway through the meal, Li Beibei stood up. “Xiubai, I’m a little woozy. I’m going to the washroom to wash my face.”

Chu Xiubai nodded. “Do you want me to accompany you?”

“No need. I’ll be back soon.” Li Beibei smiled brightly and left.

Chu Xiubai did not expect Li Beibei to be such a lightweight. However, this was good too; it would be much more convenient for him to do whatever he wanted in the future.
