“Will this even work?” Hu Hao looked at Bi Fang setting up the trap, somewhat skeptical.

“Maybe it will, maybe it won’t, but if it does, we’re in the money,” replied Bi Fang.

Bi Fang secured the bow made from bark ropes to the stump, set the arrows in place, pulled it taut, and hooked it to the catch tied to the trip line behind it.

“All set, let’s keep moving.”

Bi Fang, torch in hand, moved on after ensuring everything was correct. They chose not to rest that night and continued their journey.

Sleeping was definitely not the right move with the wolf pack watching them at all times.

Along the way, Bi Fang had already set up a total of seven large traps: two log traps, one spear trap, one pitfail, and three crossbow traps.

Three were placed near their previous campsite, and the rest were set up along the way. Now it was up to see how many wolves in the pack would fall for them. The log traps were the simplest, but the materials were hard to come by, requiring large logs that were time-consuming and laborious to prepare, and difficult to procure, either buried deep in the snow or too heavy.

These were pretty much all the trap methods Bi Fang could think of to deal with large animals at present; he wondered if he could unlock more after leveling up.

But this was the limit of his abilities for now.

And seven traps should be enough; any more would be a waste of time and energy. The wolves weren’t that stupid.

“This meat’s so tough, tastes like dog shit,” Hu Hao mumbled with a mouthful of wolf leg.

They had brought the wolf meat on purpose to ensure the pack followed the path lined with their traps.

“You’ve eaten dog shit?” Zheng Tianfang asked.

“Damn!” Hu Hao cursed.

“Hahaha!”

Boom!

“Awooo!”

Accompanied by a scream, a large expanse of snow was dislodged nearby.

The viewers were startled by the noise, but the sound made Bi Fang excitedly swing his fist in the air.

“The log trap worked!”

Just seeing how the snow was shaken off, he knew the nearby log trap had been triggered.

But he didn’t know if it killed one wolf or two.

Following the scream, a cacophony of howls rang out.

The air was filled with the smell of blood and char.

A large wolf sniffed the body of its fallen comrade, letting out a low growl.

This was the third time.

The wolf pack hadn’t caught any prey for several days, but this time the enemy was unprecedentedly tough.

The Wolf King had never thought there could be a hunter better than itself.

The losses were significant, and discontent was growing among its members, but it had no choice.

“Did you hear that?”

Zheng Tianfang was excited. Their resistance was working; the pack had sustained damage!

“You’re no predators! We are the predators!” Zheng Tianfang pointed to himself and took an aggressive bite of the wolf meat, shouting out as he vented clouds of pent-up frustration.

By now, each person was armed with two spears, two darts, and with all the traps set up along the way, everyone was feeling a bit inflated.

[Feels like there’s hope!]

[Don’t jinx us, bro!]

[Are the wolves going nuts yet? They aren’t going to freak out, are they?]

[Did the rescue team ever get moving? It’s been almost a whole day, right?] [Yeah, the snowstorm was less intense this morning—in fact, much less. But now it’s picking up again. Is there another blizzard?]

[Seems like it. I checked the weather forecast for Mohe, and it did mention snow.]

Many viewers were stimulated by the invisible clash between Bi Fang’s group and the wolf pack, but they still hoped for a swift rescue.

The snowstorm wasn’t too severe that morning; helicopters should have been able to fly. But the reality was they still hadn’t found them.

“Damn it! Where are the helicopters? Move out, move out! All of them!”

In fact, the rescue center had been established early on, and the person in charge was inside, bellowing. A whole day had gone by, an entire day, and they still hadn’t found anyone. The phone lines to their superiors were bombarded, but all to no avail.

They had asked Wolf Fang TV, hoping to find out Bi Fang’s landing location to start a circular search from there, but what they found out was.

The helicopter pilot had flown randomly according to Bi Fang’s instructions, and even the landing was random.

The most fucking unbelievable thing was, there was no black box on the helicopter!

No flight record!

Just like the helicopter crash 15 years ago in Mohe, there was nothing!

Damn it!

Of all the things to learn from, why imitate Kobe?

Even the pilot didn’t know, and car GPS was no use either, so everyone had no choice but to honestly expand the search area.

Satellite photography and thermal positioning were also useless, everything was blizzard, a vast expanse of white, and it was impossible to make out a human figure.

The screen showed the person there, but just a curtain away, it felt like a world apart.

“Captain, all our helicopters have been deployed, and those from the nearby city have been mobilized too, but we still can’t find him,” a team member said weakly, wiping his face from the spittle from Boss’s rant.

By noon, the blizzard had lessened a little, enough to allow planes to fly, but visibility was far too low, the helicopters could only fly low and search, limiting the range. Even dispatching all the helicopters, efficiency remained low.

As for mobilizing civilian resources, that was even less reliable, it may well happen that they lose connection while others are still not found.

“Captain Chen, there’s a call from the higher-ups!”

In a corner, a young man suddenly brought over a telephone.

Captain Chen was startled, and hastily picked up the call, after which a few team members heard muffled voices from the phone as their boss kept agreeing. It was a while before he put down the phone, his tone reflective. “How is it, Captain Chen, what did the higher-ups say?” a few of the young men asked worriedly. Ever since they received the search and rescue order, Captain Chen had been under immense pressure, not having slept since the operation started.

Captain Chen pursed his lips, “The military… they’ve been mobilized…”

That phone call had actually been a notification asking for their coordination.

To save Bi Fang and the others, even the military had been deployed, and to guard against the wolf pack, they were even equipped with guns and ammunition.

On the big screen, Bi Fang was still leading everyone along, completely unaware of this.

Wu Mingtao coughed twice, a whole night of traveling had left everyone exhausted. Although they were tired, the thought of the wolf pack following them forced them to rally their spirits again.

“Can we… rest for a bit?” Lin Xue leaned against a tree, resting her head against it. She was close to her limit as the day’s travel had truly been exhausting for her as a woman.

[Indeed, I’m tired just looking at them.]

[They haven’t stopped all day, I would have given up long ago.]

Many viewers felt the same upon hearing this, and they left messages saying it was okay to rest a while.

Bi Fang wiped the sweat off his face, also feeling a great depletion of energy, he looked behind him, where it was pitch-black.

He then looked ahead at the bushes and noticed a large fallen tree.

Truth be told, he was very worried that the wolf pack would pounce on them the moment they stopped.

But excessive physical exhaustion wasn’t good either; it would make fighting off the wolf pack very difficult.

Moreover, nighttime was a prime opportunity for hunting, and with daylight approaching, missing this chance might mean the wolf pack would have to wait another day, which would be a grueling test for both sides.

If he were the Wolf King, he would certainly attack before dawn because his subordinates had suffered casualties, and delaying further was not a good option.

“Okay, let’s do this; we can rest for a bit,” Bi Fang said.

Bi Fang patted the fallen giant tree, which seemed like a suitable shelter; if the wolf pack attacked from this side, they could only jump up and become easy targets, reducing the pressure considerably.

He had everyone hold their Spears and Darts in hand, prepared while taking a brief rest.

“What time is it?” Hu Hao asked after sitting down.

“It’s almost six o’clock, almost daylight,” Zheng Tianfang checked his watch and pointed to the sky.

Bi Fang also looked up at the sky, noticing it was slightly brighter than before, and seeing everyone exhausted, he cautioned them, “Don’t let your guard down. The more tired we are, the more likely the wolf pack will attack.” “Damn, don’t these beasts ever rest!” Hu Hao cursed and threw a large rock, stirring a faint growl.

Extremely close!

Bi Fang was startled, instantly shaking off his lethargy as if he were a bug escaping from a spider’s web.

He raised his eyes and only then noticed on a nearby snowy slope stood a Gray Wolf of an unusual color. The chilling green eyes fixed on them, and the long fur around the neck splayed out like the mane of a noble steed.

As soon as Bi Fang noticed it, under the dim light of dawn, the Gray Wolf howled at the sky, its cry like a distant bugle.

Following that bugle sounded the trembling earth, and an entire host of Gray Wolves raced down from the snowy slope!
