Defrosting The Cold Young Master

« Prev
Gu Junzhu gently strokes Ye Xingbei’s hair and says slowly, “All these years, he has been scared and anxious, which has directly affected his health. His health has been deteriorating year by year. Jiang Zhengxing took advantage of his illness to sideline him. Now he merely holds the title of the old family head of the Jiang Family but essentially has nothing. What could he possibly stand up against us with?”

“People used to say that if you hate someone, you will be reborn as their son in your next life – Jiang Zhengxing must have been a sworn enemy of Jiang Lin in their past lives, an enemy with deep-seated hatred!”

“Even to his last breath, Jiang Lin was planning for Jiang Zhengxing, but Jiang Zhengxing has never shown filial piety to his own father. This could be seen as karma – the villains always get their just desserts in the end!”

Ye Xingbei takes a slow breath, “Yes… Regardless, he finally got his comeuppance.”

The most pitiful of them all was her grandfather.

His wife was taken by Jiang Lin, and his two sons were harmed by Jiang Lin – one was killed, and the other was gravely injured.

Suddenly, she looked up to Gu Junzhu and asks, “Jiang Lin repeatedly said that my father’s death was his doing and that Jiang Zhengxing had nothing to do with it. Do you think it’s true?”

“No!” Gu Junzhu refutes without hesitation, “If it weren’t for today’s incident, I might still be unsure about who truly caused your father’s death. But after observing his behavior today, I’m quite certain – your father was killed by Jiang Zhengxing!”

Ye Xingbei instinctively sits up, “What’s your reason?”

“He was too anxious,” Gu Junzhu says, “If he had killed your father, he’d be eager to exonerate Jiang Zhengxing. He’d live on, until he could produce proof persuading you that your father was killed by him, thus completely absolving Jiang Zhengxing.”

“Only when your father was not killed by him, would he claim responsibility for your father’s death before hurriedly committing suicide. Hoping his death would quell your rage and hatred, urging you to abandon your investigation, thus securing a chance for survival for Jiang Zhengxing. This is a clear case of a guilty party trying to shift the blame!”

“Hmm!” Ye Xingbei nods, “Makes sense… So, what should we do next? Knowing that my father was killed by Jiang Zhengxing doesn’t help, we don’t have any proof.”

Gu Junzhu soothes her, “As I always say, every action leaves traces. We’ll find the evidence.”

He reassures Ye Xingbei verbally, but he knows inwardly, things might be difficult.

Years ago, Ye Xingbei’s parents died in a car accident.

The cause of the accident was a brake failure.

It was different from Jiang Lin impersonating Jiang Huan.

Jiang Lin being an impostor in itself is the biggest piece of evidence.

Once his identity is suspected, following the clues would naturally lead to the truth.

But a brake failure, how do they find evidence for that?

Jiang Zhengxing and Ye Xingbei’s father were biological brothers, living under the same roof.

Jiang Zhengxing could have secretly tampered with the brakes of Ye Xingbei’s father’s car without anyone knowing.

The car was destroyed in the accident which killed Ye Xingbei’s parents and has likely been scrapped a long time ago.

No witnesses, no physical evidence, and so many years have gone by – it really is difficult to start an investigation.

If it were not for these complications, Xie Yunlin and his brothers would not have been watching Jiang Zhengxing for so many years without gaining anything, only resorting to buying out Jiang Zhengxing’s companies to make him suffer financially.

But whatever the case, he will not let Jiang Zhengxing go.

No matter how hard it is, he will keep investigating until Jiang Zhengxing is sent to the gallows.

Ye Xingbei’s father is his father-in-law.

Sending Jiang Zhengxing to the gallows would be the perfect revenge for Ye Xingbei’s parents and could be seen as his dowry for marrying Ye Xingbei!
