Chapter 131: Chapter 130 [Rules] _1

“What’s happening?” The rapid descent of the flying car greatly surprised Meng Jingzhou.

Cold sweat broke out on Lu Yang’s forehead as he desperately churned the Flying Sword Technique. The flying car continued to fall and he lost control of the Green Peak Sword, unable to sense its existence.

“Here, we cannot operate our spiritual essence, all magic skills are ineffective!” Daoist Buyu announced solemnly.

“What?!”

Having seen much of the world, Daoist Buyu could roughly guess what had happened—if they really had encountered this situation, it was a major stroke of bad luck for the three of them.

However, now was not the time for such discussions. The most urgent task was to save Lu Yang and Meng Jingzhou.

He rose, threw open the roof of the car, grabbed Lu Yang with one hand and Meng Jingzhou with the other, pinned them to his waist and jumped down.

Although they could not use spiritual essence here, their physical bodies were not limited. As Daoist Buyu, a Great Power of the Unification Stage, jumped from such a high altitude, he would not be injured at all.

Lu Yang attempted several times to open his eyes and assess the situation, but the strong wind during their fall forced him and Meng Jingzhou to keep their eyes closed.

Just when the three of them were about to hit the ground, Daoist Buyu let go, gently holding them back, he landed first, creating a large crater in the ground. After him, Lu Yang and Meng Jingzhou landed, caught by Daoist Buyu, all within less than a second.

If Daoist Buyu had crash-landed while still holding the two of them, he himself would have been unscathed, but Lu Yang and Meng Jingzhou could not have survived that impact—they would have been seriously injured, if not killed.

“Huff, huff, huff!” Lu Yang and Meng Jingzhou were deeply shaken. This journey had truly been unusual, they had crashed right after setting off.

“Where are we?” Lu Yang frowned. He found himself in a small town which seemed quite ordinary and couldn’t understand why they couldn’t operate their spiritual essence here.

“Why isn’t anyone coming out?” Lu Yang noticed something else odd. It had just become 9 p.m., and the sound of the flying car’s crash was very loud. Why hadn’t anyone come out to investigate?

Could it be that there were no living people in the town and it was a ghost town?

No, that couldn’t be. Both the private residences and the inn had candles lit and one could see shadows moving behind the paper windows, there certainly were people here.

What was going on?

Lu Yang felt there was something strangely eerie about this place.

He looked at Meng Jingzhou, who shook his head, indicating he also didn’t understand what was happening.

Daoist Buyu walked over to the wreckage of the flying car, pulled the Green Peak Sword from under it. The Green Peak Sword was a gift to Lu Yang from Yun Zhi, of superior quality and unscathed by such a crash.

“Here, use it for self-defense.” Daoist Buyu handed the Green Peak Sword to Lu Yang, his demeanor clouded and serious, a stark contrast to his earlier joviality.

The suppression of spiritual energy in this place was extremely severe. Even Daoist Buyu couldn’t mobilize his spiritual essence.

Suddenly, all three of them found a piece of paper in their hands. There were densely packed words on both sides of the paper.

[Buyi Town Rules]

[Rule One: There is no spiritual energy in the town, and spiritual essence cannot be used.]

[Rule Two: From 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., a closed door residence or a closed inn room is absolutely safe. All other places are dangerous.)

[Rule Four: Must fall asleep before midnight.]

[Rule Eight: The private school has been abandoned for many years, there are no private school teachers in the town. Only the barking of dogs can be heard from the private school, not the sound of reading.]

[Rule Nine: The man in grey clothes is the private school teacher. If you meet him, pretend you cannot hear anything he says.]

[Rule Ten: Do not make eye contact with the private school teacher. If you make eye contact with him, you will turn into a black dog.]

(Rule Eleven: All food in the town is provided for free. You can help yourself, but do not eat the meat buns.]

[Rule Twelve: Be wary of government officials. The man in the black clothes is a government official. If you encounter a government official, run away immediately. Regardless of what they call out, do not turn back.]

[Rule Fifteen: If you have any question inside the inn, ask the innkeeper. If you have any question outside, ask the medicine shop owner, but do not talk to them.]

[Rule Sixteen: After entering a black door, do not speak and do not eat anything inside.)

[Rule Seventeen: Don’t easily believe what a stranger says, however what a person wearing white clothes says is always the truth.]

[Article Eighteen: There are monsters that eat humans in the Ancestral Hall]

[Article Nineteen: The Ancestral Hall is safe]

[Article Twenty: The locals of this town cannot reveal anything about this town to outsiders]

[Article Twenty-One: Leaving the town or killing the mayor dispenses with the need to comply with the rules of Buyi Town]

The white paper on which these rules were written disappeared into thin air after Lu Yang finished reading.

“What is this?” Lu Yang felt absurd, the rules conveying a sense of ominousness.

“A trick manufactured by a Unification-stage cultivator!” the Daoist Buyu declared solemnly. Seeing these twenty-one rules, he was finally confident in his guess.

There was a strong presence indicating Unification-stage cultivators, and from the pressure he felt on himself, there were more than one Unification-stage cultivators!

“Little disciple and Little Meng, have either of you heard the saying ‘the Great Era is coming’?”

Both nodded, but still didn’t quite understand. The concept of the arrival of the Great Era is too broad, and they didn’t know what it specifically referred to.

“The arrival of the Great Era manifests in many ways, one of which being the awakening of powerful beings from other eras from their sleep!”

“Now, with the vivid spiritual consciousness and active Daoist charm, it is easier to practice Enlightenment. Some even say that you can become an Immortal!”

“The Great Power flourished in the Great Qian era and the Great Yu era, but due to their own enlightenment, they could not break through further. Thus, they imagined the method of slumber, using Spirit-Stone Marrow as a carrier to seal themselves into a state of suspended animation. When the Daoist charm became active, they woke up from their sleep.”

“After their consciousness awakened, but before their bodies fully awakened, they would use all methods to protect themselves from exposure.”

“Defining an area, setting rules, detaining those who come, all these are just one of the methods.”

“Do you know the difference between Refining the Void stage and Unification stage?”

Both shook their heads. These were still very remote for them.

“The difference between Refining the Void stage and Unification stage is whether they have grasped the[rule].”

“Rule?” Lu Yang and Meng Jingzhou unknowingly repeated this word.

“Unification stage cultivators can modify the actual rules within a certain range based on their own will, but the modified rules should not be too contrary to common sense. For example, they can’t dictate, ‘I am invincible and immortal within this area’.”

“The tests you encountered when joining the sect, like the River Spirit Test and Wenxin Mountain Test, are all examples of these rules.”

“Unification stage cultivators have weak control over the rules. They must set multiple rules to limit the actions of people within the rule.”

“Transcendance Tribulation Stage cultivators and Immortals have different degrees of control over the rules. The latter is more exaggerated. After achieving Immortality and condensing the Dao Fruit, the symbol of rules, their power covers the whole world.”

Lu Yang recalled the Dao Fruit of Fairy Eternity – as long as someone recited her honorific title and Immortal name, she could resurrect.”

From the results, Fairy Eternity, this individual, is immortal.

But on a global scale, this meant that Fairy Eternity could directly resurrect, violating the world’s common sense, crossing time, space, soul, physical body and other various restrictions. It’s truly terrifying!

Lu Yang shared his guess with Fairy Eternity. Fairy Eternity nodded, affinning Lu Yang’s thought. “You’re young, but your brain works quite fast.”

Lu Yang didn’t have the mood to handle the taunt from Fairy Eternity. He listened to Daoist Buyu continue to speak, “Judging from the rules, only this small town is under their control. The range of rules that Unification-stage cultivators hold is not so small. The other person is afraid of being discovered by an Immortal of the Great Xia Dynasty!”

“A rule that can even restrain me indicates that there are more than one Unification – stage cultivators.”

Daoist Buyu revealed a ruthless look, his gaze sharp as a sword: “The Five Great Immortal Sects and the Great Xia Dynasty have together eliminated many awakening Unification-stage cultivators. It seems that today I need to get rid of a few more!”

He swung his whisk, and the threads as thin as cow hair released million strands of Sword Qi.

Swordsmanship is Daoist Buyu’s foundation. He has studied it his whole life. He doesn’t need to use spiritual essence to conjure Sword Qi!

The Sword Qi slammed into the barrier of the town. The barrier couldn’t withstand the Sword Qi and a gap was blasted open.

In the gap, four figures were waiting for Daoist Buyu. As expected, there was definitely more than one Unification-stage cultivator!

The rules they set up, they also have to adhere to. Inside the town, they cannot utilize their spiritual essence. They plan to deal with Daoist Buyu outside the town.

“Kill him!”

Daoist Buyu laughed loudly, strode forward, stepped out of the town, releasing the peak pressure of Unification stage to fight against the four Unificationstage cultivators!

“Just you bunch of wastes think you can kill me?”

Before leaving, he left a message for Lu Yang and Meng Jingzhou: “This battle may last for several days. You two must stay alive in the town!”

The gap healed, Daoist Buyu disappeared outside the town.
