Chapter 13 Chapter 13: Bloodbath

Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio

There was nothing much to say about believers becoming Prayer Mergers upon death, as it was the same as that of traditional old Gods. The greatest difference between New Gods and Old Gods lied with the function of reincarnation.

When Prayer Mergers died too many times, traditional Old Gods would have them assimilated into the Divine Kingdom to enhance the Divine Kingdom, while New Gods would allow them to reincarnate into the material plane of the Divine Realm to live once more.

The greatest benefit of doing so was that the souls of Prayer Mergers would be imprinted with the mark of the God of the Divine Realm upon reincarnation. They were innately closer to the religion of their previous life. As long as they come into contact with the religion, they could easily accept the faith and become devout believers.

Repeating the process, a large group of devout believers could easily be amassed in the material plane and naturally, Worship Value would rush inward like running water.

There weren’t many Prayer Mergers in Lin Xiao’s Divine Kingdom. There were only a few level-1 Murloc Fighters accumulated over several decades. For the rest of his Murloc believers who had died, he already had all of them reincarnated.

In fact, if it wasn’t for the fact that he needed a few Murlocs to keep up the appearances of his Divine Kingdom, he would have let all of these Murloc Fighters reincarnate already anyway.

Level-1 Murloc Fighters were too weak. They weren’t even good enough to be used as fodder. Only fighters that were above level-3 were qualified to become fodder. To become Guardians of the Divine Kingdom and whatnot, they would have to be level-4 and above.

Lin Xiao was preparing to take the elite route.

Returning to the story, when he personally led the souls of these Murloc believers into the Divine Kingdom, the impact it had on the believers was unprecedented. As this was the first time he had ever done so, the effect was simply overwhelming. In an instant, more than 70% of his True Believers became Devout Believers, and the number of his Fanatic Believers suddenly surged up by some 30 or 40.

If they could all survive this time, his Worship Value would experience a massive influx once more.

Upon seeing this scene, the Murloc leader raised his weapon and shouted, “My child, the Great Lord of the Grey Mist is watching over us. Let us kill all the heretics!”

Upon finishing, he lowered his head and looked at a Serpentmen priest who was holding a Bone Staff in front of him. Coincidently at this moment, that Serpentmen Priest raised his Bone Staff and shouted, “The almighty Gelas is watching this place. He told me that by killing these heretics, we will be bestowed with Lord Gelas’s…”

Before he could finish his speech, a figure slit apart the seawater and arrived before him. The Serpentmen Priest who had come to his senses raised the Bone Staff in his hand and forcefully stomped it downwards. When he was about to open his mouth, he saw a pair of golden eyes which imposing deterrence had left him stunned for a moment. Then, he felt a sharp pain in this chest. A humongous force rushed towards his body and sent him flying several meters away and falling heavily into seawater. The cold waters quickly drowned his consciousness.

Diving into the seawater and gliding tens of meters away after pulling out a short spear, the Murloc leader poked his head of the sea and took a few deep breaths.

At the moment he attacked, the fanatical Murlocs charged towards the Serpentmen wave upon wave.

The Salted Fish Spike ability had granted them immense speeds and five times the lethality. Even though the Serpentmen’s body was burly, and their surface scales would provide them with a substantial amount of defense, they couldn’t defend against the fivefold kinetic thrusts of the Refined Iron short spears.

The weapons summoned by a 5-Star card weren’t bad quality. Even if the fivefold damage perk was absent, it could still inflict harm upon the Serpentmen.

A Murloc sliced through the seawater at extremely high speeds and pierced the body of a Serpentman with a spear, and was immediately hack to death by the retaliating Serpentman.

Another Murloc thrust its spear towards a burly Serpentman Leader at the same exact speed. The Serpentman Leader, with an extremely quick reaction time, evaded the Salted Fish Spike attack and sliced the Murloc in half with a backhand attack.

A grin appeared on his hideous countenance as he grabbed the short spear and was about to hurl it back. In the next second, his body twisted sharply, and a segment of a sharp spear tip penetrated his body. The angry Serpentman Leader slashed the ambushing Murloc with a backhand strike. But at this moment, two Murlocs were targeting him simultaneously.

Two short spears stabbed the Serpentman Leader’s waist and back in succession. Adding up with the spear from the previous Murloc which all three attacks pierced through his body, even the level-2 Serpentman Leader couldn’t withstand such severe injuries.

The furious Serpentman Leader raised his head to the sky and roared. The blood in his pupils erupted as he turned over and killed two Murlocs who were exhausted due to the burst attack.

But in the next second, three Murlocs shot out at the same time with all three thrusts penetrating his body synchronously.

This time, these three Murlocs had learned their lesson. After hitting their target, they abandoned their spears and dived back into the water. The glistering light reflected from the surface of a blade slashed through the seawater, but it didn’t hit anything.

Being hit by seven spear thrusts in succession, he sustained severe penetrating injuries all over his body. The Serpentman Leader could no longer maintain his foothold. His tall body swayed around several times and plunged into the seawater with a ‘splash’, inciting a large ripple while his blood quickly dyed a huge area red.

This was just one corner of the battlefield. The Murlocs, who weren’t the Serpentmen’s equals at all, utilized the Salted Fish Spike ability of an extremely rare 5-Star Ability Card to deliver instances of five times burst damage. Although they could only perform one attack and they would be weakened for a ten-minute duration after the attack and likely be killed by the Serpentmen during the cooldown period.

The damage inflicted was a five-times burst damage after all. Coupled with the sharpness of the Refined Iron spears, even level-2 Serpentman Leaders couldn’t withstand the burst damage from level-0 Murlocs.

Lin Xiao’s real body stood high above the sky, overlooking the battlefield. Tall Serpentmen were falling constantly, but for every Serpentman that fell, at least one Murloc would perish alongside it, while more Murlocs were injured.

He plunged into a moment of silence. Once again, he pointed with his fingers. Level-1 Divine Technique—— Essence of Seawater was unleashed. A full 100,000 points of Worship Value evaporated.

In the next second, countless blue specks of light rose above the sea within a 100*100 meter area, quickly approached the nearby Murlocs, and merged into their bodies. The injured Murloc’s surface injuries were recovering at a speed visible to the naked eye.

This Divine Technique was a healing divine artistry that could only be cast in watery regions. The ability’s basic consumption of Worship Value was 10,000. Increasing the Worship Value could greatly increase the ability’s power, and the effect would be more obvious if it was cast by a God’s real body.

But, after all, it wasn’t a legitimate healing divine artistry. Coupled with the fact that the effects of Divine Techniques that had a large area-of-effect would not take place instantly, it could at most relieve the physical consumption of the Murlocs after performing the Salted Fish Spike. It didn’t have much of an effect in actually healing them.

But this was already enough. At least it could greatly increase their survival rate during their weakened state after performing the burst attack.

More than six hundred Murlocs charged forward in wave after wave. One after other, they enraged with a frenzied expression. Every Serpentman had to face ambushes from two to three Murlocs.

Such ambushes couldn’t be defended against at all. Except for the powerful Serpentman Leaders who could react in advance, even if the ordinary Serpentmen had detected the ambushes ahead of time, they were unable to intercept the attacks. They could only watch as dark shadows arrived before their eyes in a flash. They couldn’t even dodge them.

However, given the strong physique of the Serpentmen, it was difficult to kill them with a single strike, and for the weakened Murlocs after the perform the burst attack, the Serpentmen’s counterattack was fatal.

Every time a Serpentman fell, they would take one or two Murlocs with them.

In the sea of Lin Xiao’s consciousness, threads representing the faith of believers broke one after another. Each broken thread represented the death of a believer who was at least a True Believer, while the majority were Devout Believers. For a God, these were a massive loss.

But he had no other option. He couldn’t just go on the battlefield himself.

When he was establishing his Divine Realm, whether his teachers, seniors, or parents, all of them warned him again and again that, unless he was desperate, he must not deploy his real body.

In the state of Real Body Descension, he could at most cast Divine Techniques or Mystical Powers to provide assistance. However, he must not go on the battlefield and fight in the flesh.
