Chapter 33

But with this “Seer’s Eye,” I can tell when Adrian has truly malevolent intents and responds accordingly.

Adrian places a high value on stealth, thus I assumed this skill would be critical to his survival.

“Should I give it a try?”

What should I use it for?

I looked about and discovered the ideal object.

Adrian was clutching garden shears today, which I had grabbed from him.

If he bought it intending to stab someone, it would be red, right?

I carefully picked up the garden shears and activated the “Seer’s Eye” talent.

According to the description, a red aura should be visible, but I saw nothing; everything was spotless.

“…What, was all that talk about looking at the Countess with longing eyes sincere?”

He may become an actor.

Even the devil can be a filial son.

It left a foul taste in my mouth to have forcibly taken something that wasn’t meant for evil.

I’ll need to return the garden shears tomorrow.

“And what is the ‘Lucky Bag’? A bag of fortune?”

As I get beyond the novice levels, it appears that hidden mechanisms are gradually opened.

When I put down the garden shears and pressed on the bag with rainbow colors at the top, an embellished image appeared in place of white lettering.

New letters appeared within a box adorned with embellishments found on castle walls.

「You can draw one thing for free every three days.

  Item acquisition grade: Normal~Hero

You can start drawing premiums as your level rises.」

I used to adore collecting games and RPGs.

These free draws frequently include helpful items, but they have extremely low possibilities of being drawn in a lifetime.

Still, I’d give it a shot because it’s free, but is it truly free?

I was ready to push the draw button when I cautiously inspected every corner of my field of view.

Regardless, it is improbable that this game will provide a structure that benefits the gamer.

It cannot be… Is this really a free draw?

Is it only free to spin, with everything else costing money?

What if I draw and it reads ‘-10G’, deducting my money?

Why would there be a draw system in a horror game?

I carefully searched for any hidden catch, such as ‘Costs may be incurred dependent on draw outcomes’ or ‘Pressing the button is equal to committing to a payment’.

After being duped by the system many times, I’ve grown suspicious of anything new like this.

But, was it truly a free draw?

Despite my search, I couldn’t find any particular phrases.

I kept my guard until I touched the draw button and stared at the white writing.

When the draw effect emerged, I felt like I was in a casino for a little period.

Items appeared, and the roulette wheel spun swiftly.

Pachinko…?

Probably a pointless item.

The average game probabilities are 97% for Normal, 2% for Advanced, 0.9999999% for Rare, and 0.0000001% for Hero.

‘I’ll be different’, ‘Maybe’ – that’s how draws work; you can only receive Normal stuff in your lifetime.

Because game makers must give both entertainment and a source of income.

That’s what I thought, looking on indifferently when a bolt of golden lightning struck.

What’s this, and why is the effect so flashy?

“Could it be, am I getting a Hero item in one go?”

Not just any color; gold.

Such an impact would not emerge on a Normal grade item.

What is it?

Could it really be a Hero item?

A hero pillow?

Is this how my gaming life suddenly changes?

The pounding in my ears after confronting Adrian was nothing compared to this.

The roulette stopped, and a golden luminous item landed on my palm like a feather.

What could possibly justify such dramatic effects?

My eyes widened with eagerness as the brilliant light faded, revealing…

「You have got weed!

  Feature: Useless.」

It was actually a weed.

My soaring spirits fell to the earth in an instant.

A worthless weed…

I laughed at the absurdity of a weed glowing in gold.

It is a way to mock me.

I was duped by the golden glow, although I knew the odds all too well.

I laughed hysterically at the air before grabbing the weed so hard it shattered and forcefully threw it on the ground.

I should have known right away that it was a free draw!

“Young Master, I’ve brought your medicine.”

I knocked on the door, and a voice from inside allowed me to enter.

I arrived in Adrian’s room considerably earlier than normal because I didn’t want to spend more time in the kitchen.

Previously, I was always on edge, wondering when and how Adrian would kill me, but now that I had the “Seer’s Eye” skill, I felt more at ease.

I learned this essential ability as soon as I devised a plan to remove all possibly dangerous instruments.

Now, whatever Adrian holds, I can answer appropriately.

If it shines red, I’ll either take it away or leave the scenario; else, I can stay put.

It means I don’t have to worry about petty stuff.

In that spirit, I returned the garden shears I’d taken from him.

Because it was evident that he had no intention of utilizing them for murder, it was only fair to return them.

Since I visit Adrian’s room daily, I can always return it if it glows red.

With the “Seer’s Eye,” I am unstoppable.

With this hope, I opened the door wide.

“Hilda, you’ve come.”

A man I’d never seen before stood near Adrian’s bed and looked at me.

He was an elderly gentleman with perfectly combed graying hair, giving off a clean appearance.

This is horrible.

I’ve no idea who he is.

No characters in the game were like him, and he appeared to be close to Hilda, so I couldn’t even ask his name.

“Hel…lo.”

Adrian eyed me carefully as I stammered through my welcome, unsure what else to say.

The elderly gentleman busted out laughing at my uncomfortable response.

“Oh, you. Are you still upset that I left for a long journey without saying goodbye? I’m so sorry. This time, I had to go quickly; it was unavoidable. I’ve been too busy making medicine for the young master to take in the morning and evening. Have you been taking proper care of the young master’s medicine? Let us see.”

He strode up, pulled the tray from my grasp, and began inspecting the small quantities of medicine packed in tiny porcelain dishes.

“You brought the correct quantity of doses. Hilda, initially, you made blunders.”

“I’ve been doing this for more than a day or two. I’ve become used to it.”

“I see you’re talking back now. You don’t seem to be sulking anymore. Come to my room later. I brought back a nice gift from my trip. Then you’ll be following me about and calling ‘Doctor Hubert, Doctor Hubert’ exactly like in the old days, won’t you?”

“I don’t need to receive anything, Doctor. How could I be upset? You’ve journeyed a long way.”

I soon caught up on the hints in his statements and answered.

Hubert’s eyes crinkled, with deep wrinkles around the corners.

“Look at you, making such mature comments. Are we acting all prim in front of the Young Master?”

“Huh?”

What is this about now?

Hubert chuckled loudly as I gazed blankly, unable to understand.

“This kid is pretending not to know. Don’t you remember anything from your childhood? What you did on your first day here.”
